The inhabitants being informed who the travellers were, sounded the alarm, barricaded the bridge, and seized the horses. the king's attendants would have killed the fellows that stopt the carriage but the King unwilling to be the cause of bloodshed, forbad all resistance and surrendered himself to the Magistrate of the Town.
